BRADFORDS, LAUNCESTON - A Complete Fit Out For A New Store

Bradfords had acquired a new brownfield site on the outskirts of Launceston. The site comprised of two floors and they required a new shop on the ground floor and a brand-new kitchen and bathroom showroom on the first floor.

Total Design were engaged to fit out both floors in a full turnkey project. Our ability to not just fit out but manage the whole scheme was the point of difference and the reason we were awarded the contract. The fit out involved four of our divisions – TD Shopfitting, TDS Electrical, Shelving Solutions and TD Joinery, and we project managed the M&E contractors and Bradfords own suppliers/contractors.

The Ground Floor

On the ground floor we provided all the shelving and accessories, a new counter was built by our Joinery team and all the electrical fittings were installed by TDS Electrical. Our Shopfitting team then installed all the fittings and joinery, built the walls and installed any OSB frieze and wall coverings.

Although the M&E was already installed on the ground floor our plumber had to install new water feeds for the coffee machine and a spare feed for the first floor. The final piece downstairs was the full decoration of the doors, walls and tool hire station area floor.

The First Floor

On the first floor we fitted out the new kitchen and bathroom showroom, created a new training room, re-clad the stair banisters and installed a new floor and a new ceiling as well as new lighting, electrics and air conditioning.

The showroom was the most interesting part of this project as it was the most intricate and took a number of our specialist tradesmen including joiners, tilers, electricians and a floorer. The bathroom/shower pods involved different styles and patterns of tiling on the wall and the floor. This was time consuming and intricate and important to get right first time because the client supplied the materials.

TDS Electrical Team to the Rescue

Overall, the project took 10 weeks to complete. This was the projected timescale and we kept the project on time and on budget. The ground floor was handed over on the 28th April with the store due to open one week later. Unfortunately the opening was delayed due to a lack of power.

We had identified before we started that the site would not have enough power for the services it provided. Our electrical team worked tirelessly to get the power upgraded, making sure of the correct supply and procedures, before we handed over the first floor. The result was the opening was only delayed by 2 weeks instead of the 6 months it could have taken.

Effective Collaboration

This project is the epitome of a contractor working in tandem with the client. Our client’s main contact was new to the company and so relied on us to provide all the information he needed to get this project over the line.

We gave him the confidence to install the correct products to the correct specification. We also completed the project when we said we would, for the cost we said it would be.

The client is now happy to continue building our relationship which will lead to more work and more of a leading role within the Bradfords organisation.

Great Feedback

“If Total Design had not been involved in the fit out and electrical upgrade I don’t believe we would have got the site open in the timescale we did. The site has taken off really well and the customers love the look and feel of the shop and showroom.

As our customers are tradesmen themselves the quality of the install is very important to support the Bradfords brand and give the customers confidence in us as a builders merchants”
